bullies. and now today her cousins are coming together celebrating her life in a really special way with a special birthday invitation. sherrie johnson is here with how people can remember hem her. >> reporter: her family -- her. >> reporter: her family members want to fight against cyber bullying and hurtful words. send a text message of kindness through social media to someone that may boost their spirits. so far more than 4500 people signed up for the kindness for grace day. cousin of grace mccomas says she would be alive if the bullies gabe her the same respect. she committed suicide on easter sunday after the family says she was bullied online for over a year. now her cousins are challenging people to say kind words through twitter and facebook and e-mail. they believe kindness would have kept grace alive. the goal is to reach the bullies and have them delete the words that kill. >> it helps with people's self- esteem because i think that tends to be a problem nowadays. kid have slow self-esteem. they don't think they are good

problems getting downtown. you are looking at an 11 minute ride delay free from the beltway to fayette street. that's your traffic. now over to you megan. 6:17. we have been spending a lot of time talking about jerry sandusky not just because he is being sentenced today but because of the hidous crimes that were committed and what good can come from it. and we can be better parents and teachers and community leaders something we have learned. and that's why adam rosenberg the director. baltimore child abuse center is coming in to talk to us about this. thanks for being here. >> thank youch good morning. >> good morning. one -- thank you. good morning. >> good morning. we were talking about what parents should know and the discussion they should have with their kid. i what do they do? >> i think people should feel comfortable knowing they can and should report abuse if they suspect it. we run a great nonprofit that has the ability to help a lot of kids over 1 how thooft-- over 1,000 last year. but no one can get the help unless they report the suspected abuse and then we can

figure out what happened. >> they can call you guys what exactly is the baltimore child abuse center if someone is not familiar with it. >> a child advocacy center. one of the law and orders we are the one stop shop when kids report abuse and someone suspects abuse happened they come to us and we quickly within two hours, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week talk to children. fine out what happened and have experience profession -- find out what happened and have experienced professionals and a medical clinic a find consistent or inconsistent signs of physical abuse. we make mental health referrals and do therapy on-site and teach parents and kids to prevent this from happening again or how to move forward. >> we were disgusted when the case came out. but you said it happens all the time and happens anywhere. >> yeah. the numbers are one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused by the time they are 18. one of the key things is realizing we have to talk about this. >> reporter: one in four girls?that's shocking.

>>es it's a shocking number. it's greater than kids with autism or cancer. topics we feel we can talk about and do something, this is happening all around us. it cost 120 billion dollars a year to deal with the inintended health consequence of abuse. let's do something rather than standing on the sidelines. >> sandusky sentenced today what would you like to see happen. >> i would like to see a serious sentenced. look, 30 years, 50 years at this point is tantamount to a lifesentence but it needs to be symbolic so victims of the crimes know they received justice. the public knows we are not going to stand for institutional abuse like this. and people who violated the trust of children. so, sure, you know, 50 year sentence or multiple life sentence would be great because it's the symbol and it's not the end of this. this continues on. there are other cases and allegations coming up across the country of kids abused and hopefully this is that lightning rod people can come forward and say if they received justice so can we. and they receive help we can
